　　學(xué)子們陸續(xù)返校后，校園生活也發(fā)生了許多變化。其中之一便是許多需大型聚集的活動(dòng)紛紛取消，為此，福州西湖國(guó)際學(xué)校也不得不取消了第五屆年度英語(yǔ)拼詞大賽。即使是全美拼詞大賽也被喊停，要知道該賽事已有百年歷史，自二戰(zhàn)以來(lái)還沒(méi)有哪一年取消過(guò)。

　　With the resumption of school, many changes took place.? One of those changes was the cancellation of all large gatherings, which, unfortunately, caused FLIS to cancel its 5th Annual Spelling bee.? Even the official Scripps spelling bee, a tradition that dates back hundreds of years, was canceled, which hasn't been done since world war 2.??

　　雖然如此，我們還是舉行了班級(jí)內(nèi)的拼詞大賽！2019年全美拼詞大賽持續(xù)了五天，而FLIS拼詞大賽于2020年七月在校園班級(jí)內(nèi)舉辦，橫跨數(shù)天共計(jì)數(shù)小時(shí)。

　　But we didn't let the changes in the school's calendar stop us from hosting our own, in-class spelling bees. The official Scripps spelling bee in 2019 went on for 5 days, but the FLIS Spelling Bee took place over a couple of hours, inside campus classrooms on various days in the month of July.

　　今年，單詞按照難度分為三個(gè)階段。恭喜在一階（由“punting撐篙”至“thistle薊”）獲勝的選手！這一階段比拼結(jié)束后，我們進(jìn)入二階賽段，單詞難度更甚于前。二階賽段中有出現(xiàn)“Hexagonal六邊形的”這樣的難度單詞，而這已經(jīng)是該階段詞匯表上難度較低的單詞了！表中還有“Intermezzo間奏曲”, “regalia盛裝華服”, “woebegone憂(yōu)傷的”, “verbena馬鞭草屬”, 以及“petite嬌小的”這樣的單詞。

　　This year the words were split into three levels. Congratulations to our winners who spelled words ranging from “punting” to “thistle” for level one, and, once that level was completed, the words got even harder. Level two had words like “Hexagonal”, which was the easiest word on the list. “Intermezzo”, “regalia”, “woebegone”, “verbena”, and “petite” were on the list as well.

　　但三階賽段的魔鬼難度更令人望而卻步！在這一階段，詞匯表上較為簡(jiǎn)單的單詞為“l(fā)acrosse長(zhǎng)曲棍球”, 但此次表上還有像“xylyl二甲苯基”, “zabaglione薩巴里安尼”, 以及 “codswallop胡言亂語(yǔ)”這樣的單詞。表上的最后一個(gè)單詞是"malleolus腳踝".

　　But don't even get me started on the level three words! They were insane! The easiest word on level three was “l(fā)acrosse”, but there were words like “xylyl”, “zabaglione”, and “codswallop”. The last word on the list was malleolus.
