Congratulations to BCIS Class of 2021! Our graduates received offers from almost 200 universities around the world. Valedictorian, Karen, accepted an offer from the New York University (NYU) Stern School of Business, a top 10 business program in the United States. Karen's studies here at BCIS, along with her motivation and strong passion for business helped her reach her goal of pursuing an undergraduate business degree at a prestigious school.
2021屆BCIS畢業(yè)典禮上，一位女孩自信、靈動(dòng)、極具創(chuàng)意地告別致辭給到場(chǎng)嘉賓留下了深刻印象，她就是被美國(guó)專業(yè)排名前十的紐約大學(xué) (NYU) 斯特恩商學(xué)院錄取的Karen。Karen對(duì)商業(yè)的熱情和喜愛(ài)在BCIS 求學(xué)期間得以全部地釋放和發(fā)揮，從興趣愛(ài)好到理想專業(yè)，她說(shuō)這樣的蝶變和收獲離不開(kāi)BCIS社區(qū)的賦能與支持。
When Karen arrived at the Secondary School, she already had a keen affinity for business. This topic peaked her interests from an early age, and Karen could often be found enjoying an episode of the hit reality television show "Shark Tank" while mulling over investment ideas. During her time at BCIS, Karen would have the opportunity to turn her interest into tangible activities and results that would benefit the whole BCIS community.
Karen從小就對(duì)商業(yè)有著濃厚的興趣。當(dāng)其他小朋友看動(dòng)畫(huà)片、玩奧特曼時(shí)，她則會(huì)興趣盎然地收看美國(guó)ABC電視臺(tái)推出的《創(chuàng)智贏家》真人秀節(jié)目。這是一檔為創(chuàng)業(yè)者們尋求投資贊助的節(jié)目，懷揣夢(mèng)想與創(chuàng)意的青年們可以帶著自己的研發(fā)產(chǎn)品參加節(jié)目，贏得在場(chǎng)投資人的認(rèn)可就能獲得啟動(dòng)資金圓自己的創(chuàng)業(yè)夢(mèng)。當(dāng)時(shí)還是孩童的Karen就已經(jīng)開(kāi)始在小腦袋里思考和創(chuàng)建自己的“商業(yè)版圖”了，如果是自己站在《創(chuàng)智贏家》的舞臺(tái)上，她會(huì)帶來(lái)怎樣的研發(fā)產(chǎn)品，應(yīng)該采用何種戰(zhàn)術(shù)和方式打動(dòng)在場(chǎng)的投資人。升入BCIS初中部，Karen的商業(yè)之種有了開(kāi)花結(jié)果和樹(shù)木成蔭的“土壤”。她積極參加校內(nèi)外的商業(yè)活動(dòng)，將自己的所學(xué)所思付諸實(shí)踐。
While studying in the Secondary School at BCIS, Karen actively participated in many of the varied enrichment activities offered at the school. She used her knack for finance to establish and lead her own investment club. Under her leadership, students discussed investment strategies, and even participated in an online competition where they made a mock investment proposal for a client. It was opportunities such as this that not only made her time at BCIS more engaging but also helped to prepare her for her next steps at university and her career.
中學(xué)期間，除了參與學(xué)校的課外拓展活動(dòng)，她運(yùn)用積累多年的金融知識(shí)建立了投資俱樂(lè)部。在她的宣傳和帶領(lǐng)下，同學(xué)們紛紛加入。團(tuán)隊(duì)合作討論投資策略，參加在線商業(yè)競(jìng)賽，為客戶定制模擬投資方案。Karen說(shuō)：“這些實(shí)踐機(jī)會(huì)和活動(dòng)，不僅使我的學(xué)習(xí)和生活變得繽紛絢爛，讓我感到豐盈充實(shí)，更讓我提前為大學(xué)和職業(yè)規(guī)劃打下良好的基礎(chǔ)?！迸c此同時(shí)，Karen本人和她組織的活動(dòng)也讓BCIS 社區(qū)受益。
Not only did BCIS empower Karen to gain valuable experience by setting up her own investment club, the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) provided the strong academic foundation of a program that is recognized and respected all over the world. Karen believes that the IBDP offered at BCIS gave her unique advantages when applying to universities. Her IB classes, such as Economics and English, not only prepared her for courses at university level, but her BCIS teachers also inspired her with creative and fun ways to learn the material. Taking her IBDP exams at BCIS also provided university credits for some of Karen's introductory courses at NYU, enabling her to immediately begin studying more advanced material. She believes that the assessments offered at BCIS, such as the SAT, made it much more convenient for her when applying for college.
在BCIS求學(xué)期間，學(xué)校提供的大舞臺(tái)不僅為Karen展示和發(fā)揮個(gè)人商業(yè)創(chuàng)想提供了有力支持，嚴(yán)謹(jǐn)且專業(yè)的IBDP課程更讓她可以為自己的夢(mèng)想夯實(shí)學(xué)術(shù)基礎(chǔ)。Karen回憶道，樂(lè)成的老師們會(huì)不斷地鼓勵(lì)她創(chuàng)造，探索并使用有趣的方式和方法進(jìn)行學(xué)習(xí)。除了必修課程以外，Karen根據(jù)自身興趣進(jìn)行了自主選擇和深入學(xué)習(xí)，她所選的經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)和英語(yǔ)等課程以及優(yōu)異的SAT考試成績(jī)，在申請(qǐng)大學(xué)時(shí)占據(jù)獨(dú)特優(yōu)勢(shì)，也為入學(xué)后的大學(xué)課程奠定了基礎(chǔ)。不僅如此，依靠IBDP 成績(jī)還為 Karen 賺取了紐約大學(xué)入門(mén)課程的學(xué)分，使她能夠很快地投入高階學(xué)習(xí)狀態(tài)中。
Although the benefits provided in class and through BCIS enrichment activities were important to Karen as she transitioned to university, the one aspect of BCIS she cherishes the most is the warm, welcoming community. Being a student at BCIS for six years allowed Karen to build strong friendships with her classmates, and she appreciated the smaller, tight-knit feeling of classes at the school. She also appreciated how kind and caring her teachers were to her and all the students at the school.
回首在樂(lè)成六年的學(xué)習(xí)生活時(shí)光，Karen對(duì)老師和同伴給予的友善和關(guān)懷心存感激。這里不僅是她學(xué)習(xí)的場(chǎng)域、提升個(gè)人價(jià)值的社區(qū)，更是自己夢(mèng)想起飛的地方。她珍視自己與同伴、老師和BCIS社區(qū)里所有的人產(chǎn)生的情感鏈接，共同攜手實(shí)現(xiàn)個(gè)人夢(mèng)想與價(jià)值的過(guò)程和記憶。她會(huì)一直想念BCIS這個(gè)大社區(qū)，想念這里的家人們。
As Karen prepares to leave for NYU, she will not be leaving the BCIS community. BCIS Alumni Network spans the globe, and there is even a BCIS New York Alumni Association based at NYU that will welcome Karen so she can reconnect with her fellow BCIS graduates. The strong community is one of the many advantages BCIS provides our students and graduates. Congratulations to Karen for all she accomplished at BCIS, and for her admission into the NYU Stern School of Business! Best wishes to Karen and all the Class of 2021 graduates as they take the next step in their educational journeys.
