NEW TERM
In the fall semester of 2021, we welcomed the new students of G1 and G2. We have arranged diverse orientation activities so that students can adapt to their studies and life at SDA as soon as possible.
Welcome the new students with a gift pack
At the same time, in order to ensure safety against epidemic, some of the plenary activities will be conducted online and students can watch and learn carefully in their classrooms.
Principal Ms. Agnes Cheng had deep expectations for the new students. She said at the orientation ceremony that:
--成為積極的參與者,積極參與學(xué)校的活動中,全身心的投入;
--成為堅定的行動者,腳踏實地,擔當自己的責任,才能實現(xiàn)自己的目標;
--成為動態(tài)的思考者,每天不斷思考、反思,每天都在進步;
--成為主動的承擔者,主動地擔當比被動地接受,更加能讓你看到自己的不同
Welcome all new students to the SDA family. What were we doing when we stepped onto campus? What were we thinking when we entered the campus of SDA? You are different today compared with yesterday. I want all students to be unique and be different from what you were yesterday. The first thing I want you to do at SDA is to observe yourself every day, every moment, every second.
Observing yourself does not mean looking in the mirror, but having a greater commitment to the new academic stage you are about to enter - high school studies. In junior high school, many of you felt that your parents and teachers wanted you to study, but now you need to know that studying is your own responsibility. I hope that you can become the person who take study as one’s own responsibility.
Observing yourself requires us to set our own goals. Some students want to learn music, some want to become designers, and some want to become teachers. These are your own real goals.
Observing yourself - everyone has infinite possibilities. Cultivate your own strengths and interests, you will embrace a broad world, and you can find a different yourself every day, which is a more complete version of yourself.
When we are in a community, we need to observe not only ourselves but also the world.
Observing the world is about respecting differences. Everyone around us has their own characteristics and we need to respect each of them, respect cultural differences and open up our perspectives.
We hope that our students will have broad horizons and lofty ideals, have the courage and ambition to look at the stars. Everyone has dreams, let us work hard and realize our dreams together.
Observing yourself is the principle of adhering to long-termism. Studying perseveringly will surely bring you surprises in the future.
We should learn from the Olympic team, conquering the world with literacy and cultivation, winning glory by the pursuit of the ultimate!
How can you truly observe yourself and the world?
--By becoming an active participant, taking an active part in the school's activities and immersing yourselves in them.
--By becoming a determined and down-to-earth doer and assuming your responsibilities in order to achieve your goals.
--By becoming dynamic thinkers, constantly thinking and reflecting every day, thus making progress every day.
--By becoming a proactive undertaker, you can see your differences by taking responsibility actively rather than accepting passively.
Every day we observe ourselves and the world, keep improving and pursuing in order to make a difference to ourselves and to the world!
We hope you enjoy every day at SDA!

The students have got to know their teachers and to know where each teacher's office is. They knew what clubs and activities are available in the school and look forward to joining them soon; they knew that they are on the path to further education from the lower grades and that the school will provide them with various opportunities to explore and plan for further education; they learned about the various rules and regulations of the school, such as how to take leave? How to use electronic devices according to the rules? They have got to know the psychology teacher and to learn to deal with emotional problems in time. They also learned how to check their own class schedules on ManageBac and how to check their teachers' assignments; they listened to Jerry Fang's Cambridge application process and applauded from across the screen as they learned how their seniors became better versions of themselves at SDA. We also saw the students' expectations and aspirations for their high school academic career ......

Cambridge seniors shared study tips and advice:
Many students think that they can immerse themselves in exercises on A-Levels, and it is true that many students enhanced their marks by doing so. But I would not advise you to do so, otherwise you will lose the joy of learning the subject and be inefficient. I recommend that you do your best to understand both in and beyond the classes, for example, learning maths and economics require your understanding of causal relationship, rather than your ability to take exams.
My top tips for studying are to read a lot and ask your teachers questions if you don't understand. The SDA teachers are happy to help every student. Don't be shy, try to reach out to your friends and your teachers and take the plunge.
It is important to read more, both for utilitarian and non-utilitarian purposes. For utilitarian purposes, UK application documents require specialist reading, focusing on the subject matter, and it is difficult to write good documents without the accumulation of knowledge. For non-utilitarian purposes, you can read according to your own interests and try to feel the charm of the plot of the book, which is a very meaningful and interesting thing to do.
This advice is also highly consistent with my principle: don't be too result-oriented or utilitarian in your high school career. As an example, when I was preparing for my science interview at Cambridge, I kept thinking about how I was going to pass the interview, which in turn made me more nervous and made me focus on the interview and lose sight of the initial purpose of the subject interview. Then my teacher reminded me to think of it as an opportunity to interact and learn from people who are excellent in their subject area, and I started to adjust my mindset and impress the professors with my humility and hard working.
