CLASS OF 2022

EARLY APPLICATION:
SOME MISUNDERSTANDING

Managebac + BridgeU

Face-to-Face Meeting

FOR OUR PARENTS

UPCOMING EVENT
With the recurrence of the global epidemic, the university application policy is full of variables, which also affects the learning environment at home and abroad. Many uncertain factors add extra difficulty to the challenging university application process. According to the report on the development of Chinese overseas students, the number of returnees increased over 31 times from 130,000 in 2000 to 4,231,700 in 2019. With the continuous expansion of the returnee population, the employment situation has become more prominent.
This is also an opportunity for us to reflect on our educational goals. What is the purpose of studying abroad? Why should we go abroad? How to come back? In the application season, we invited Ms. Vivian and Ms. Tiffany to help NACIS families deal with university application issues.

UPDATES ON
CLASS OF 2022
Q:Updates on Class of 2022?
This year, more than 50% of NACIS students submitted early applications. The destination countries are predominantly the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Australia. NACIS students have shown diverse and rounded personalities in choosing majors. Similar to last year, students showed strong interest in biomedicine, politics and visual arts. This year, in addition, students have chosen other favorite majors such as media, philosophy, earth sciences, civil engineering and wildlife protection.
So far, students have received offers from Imperial College London, University of Warwick, University of Sydney, Trinity College Dublin, and New York School of Visual Arts (including a scholarship). In addition, several graduates have been admitted to University of Manchester, the world's top 30 university, majoring in social humanities, biology, civil engineering, philosophy and politics, etc.
Q:Does the change in policy environment affect the application?
Due to the epidemic, most universities continue to not require students to submit standardized scores – although students can still do so. We encourage students to give universities further information by submitting standardized scores.
However, under the current situation, overseas university admission officers are temporarily unable to visit the school. Therefore, students have fewer opportunities to communicate directly with universities they don’t know at all. They prefer to apply for well-known universities with the highest rankings, which may not always be the most suitable university for them. It is a great loss for both students and universities. As their university guidance counselors, we know the advantages of each student, so we will do our best to recommend universities for students to choose from.

EARLY APPLICATION:
SOME MISUNDERSTANDING
Q:How do you advise students on early application and regular application?
Many parents and students have a misunderstanding about early application, believing that early application increases the chance of admission, or early application will be more helpful to the university application. In fact, judging from the early application situation in the past few years, no matter how many students submit early application, the admission rate is quite similar. Therefore, students should carry out planning based on their preparations instead of pursuing early application blindly.
"Opportunities are reserved for those who are prepared" is a saying we often say to G12 students. Students are expected to prepare well for the issues below.
Up to standard academic performance
Full knowledge of the applied university
Elaborately polished documents that can represent themselves
Creative recommendation letter
Q:Is there no chance if rejected by early application university?
We have always emphasized that being rejected by the early application university does not mean that you will not be admitted to a better university. Although some universities have "famous reputations", the major you apply for may not be their strengths. Similarly, some universities have low ranking, but some advantageous majors are very competitive, and you can get more advantageous educational resources. Therefore, it is still necessary to apply for university based on a full understanding of the university and yourself instead of being disrupted by the rejection letter.

THE NACIS COMMUNITY
Q:What resources do we provide for students?
At NACIS, the university guidance shows the strong advantages of the NACIS community. We cooperate with NACIS families and community to provide students with a full range of support from online to offline, from data support to face-to-face communication, from NACIS alumni to elite parents. For examples:
Teachers provide one-on-one counseling and communication about application lists, essays, and interviews
Regular lectures on university guidance
Large and transparent database support, monitoring the application process at any time
Online and offline university visits, one-on-one conversations with admissions officers
Multiple rounds of one-on-one mock interviews with admissions officers and interview skill explanation
Sharing from previous graduates
Career sharing from elite parents

We believe that education should build a bond with society. Will the young people prepare for future career?
With this thinking, NACIS Secondary Career Education Program also kicked off. With the support of NAE, we are partnering with Vision Connect and the world's leading career planning career assessment system, Kuder to carry out students' career aptitude test.
Fortunately, we have successively received self-recommendations from 42 “Parent Career Mentors” who have become “guides” for students in the future career paths.

FOR LOWER GRADES
Q:Do G10 students need to take into consideration their future university majors and future employment directions? How does the choice of extracurricular activities help the application?
We also set our sights on the students who are about to enter the graduating class. First, we help students establish a general direction. Second, we help them make targeted planning in advance.
Our planning for higher education starts from students’ future career, and guides students to make future plans from majors, university and career directions through lectures, talks with parents, students and teachers, and career lectures. This is not only beneficial to the choice of university application, but also conducive to the formation of personal career intentions.
We want to tell students that the future initiative is in our own hands. In the choice of extracurricular activities, each child has different starting points and strengths, so there is no need to participate in a "well-known" summer school or to challenge a competition in order to "add the glory" to the essay. We even hope that students think about: “What do I like and what am I willing to do?” In the eyes of university admissions officers, the most dazzling characteristics is that students are willing to spend time and energy into their own interests and develop them into club activities and research projects.
Face-to-Face Meeting
Among our graduates, there are cases of developing hobbies into club activities and service projects:
This year, our prospective graduate William extended his enthusiasm for environmental protection to the establishment of a society. The "Focus Club" was established under his leadership to focus on the severe challenges the world is facing and countermeasures. The enthusiasm and perseverance have helped him gain the favor of many universities, including Oxford, Imperial College and UCL.
Q:What are the common characteristics of students who can succeed in university and after graduation?
Entering the ideal university is just a starting point, while being able to succeed in the university and after graduation is the embodiment of outstanding characteristics. Based on the past experience, students who have a sense of purpose, resilience, and are willing to make efforts can achieve excellent results in university.
Evian, one of the first group of graduates who is keen on community service, went to the Tanzania base to build classrooms for local children. She also led students to write and direct theatrical performances because of love for art. With her outstanding comprehensive ability, she was admitted to George Washington University in advance. Now Evian, a junior, is also studying and doing internships in well-known American companies. She is still grateful to NACIS. She said: “when I enter NACIS, I have gained not only a learning experience, but also a transformation.

FOR OUR PARENTS
Q:What suggestions can we provide for NACIS parents?
Parents should cultivate children's ability to think independently as soon as possible, rather than being an executor of mechanical will. During the process of university guidance, we have always advocated that students should play a leading role, think about their goals and make plans. University guidance counselors, parents, school and universities work together to support students in this process. There is no doubt that parents are of course a very important part of it. We recommend that parents actively encourage their children to take full responsibility for choosing a university and help them understand the choice and responsibilities behind it.
As far as further studies are concerned, we should pay more attention to the experiences in the process of entering university and the improvement of abilities gained from these experiences.
An offer from a prestigious school is by no means a permanent label for you, while it is just the starting point for facing the world independently. In the future, students are expected to explore step by step, think independently. We believe our students will gain countless possibilities.
