邁阿密大學（Miami University，縮寫MU）是一所公立研究型大學，位于美國俄亥俄州牛津市，是最初的八所“公立常春藤”之一。該校成立于1809年，但一直到1824年才正式開課，是美國歷史上第10古老的公立大學，也是俄亥俄第二所公立大學（次于俄亥俄大學）。*(1)
注：注意區(qū)分“Miami University”與“University of Miami”。這兩所學校中譯都為“邁阿密大學”，但二者是兩所完全不同的學校——前者位于俄亥俄州牛津市，是一所公立大學，后者位于佛羅里達州，是一所私立大學，后者USNEWS排名高于前者。中文為與位于佛羅里達的這所“邁阿密大學”區(qū)分，俄亥俄州的這所“邁阿密大學”又常作“邁阿密大學牛津分?！?。
邁阿密大學隸屬于俄亥俄大學系統(tǒng)，除主校區(qū)牛津分校外，邁阿密大學另有三所地方分校，分別位于俄亥俄州的漢密爾頓、米德爾敦、西切斯特，均屬于因?qū)W校擴張而開辟的地方性學校。此外該校還有一個位于盧森堡迪費丹格（Differdange）的海外校園。一般所指的邁阿密大學即指其位于牛津的主校區(qū)。
學校歷史
舊邁阿密
邁阿密大學由美國首任總統(tǒng)華盛頓簽署法令成立，一句該法令，美國政府必需在俄亥俄河（Ohio River）東北部的邁阿密谷（Miami Valley）建立一所學校。1803年開始尋找合適的建校地址，——兩天后俄亥俄方才成為美國一個正式的州。、1809年2月2日正式立校，建校地開始被稱為“大學稱（College Township）”，隨即被命名為牛津市。1812年因美西戰(zhàn)爭暫停建校，一直到1824年方才正式開課，1839年達到學校的一個招生高峰——250人，這個學生人數(shù)在當時的美國只有哈佛大學、耶魯大學、達特茅斯學院可以超過。1873年，因生源短缺，邁阿密大學被迫關(guān)閉，校舍也被出租給當?shù)氐囊凰咧?，一直?885年復校。也因此，邁阿密大學1803年-1873年的歷史又被成為“老邁阿密（Old Miami）”，1885年以來的歷史則被稱為“新邁阿密（New Miami）”。
新邁阿密
邁阿密大學1885年復校后，學生只有40人，直到整個19世紀結(jié)束，邁阿密大學的學生人數(shù)都未超過100人。1900年，邁阿密大學開始接受州政府資助，逐漸成為一所公立大學，同年學生人數(shù)上升到207人。1902年，俄亥俄州立法規(guī)定公立大學必需男女兼招，1928年邁阿密大學合并與其同城牛津女校（Oxford College for Women）。二次世界大戰(zhàn)后，邁阿密大學的學生人數(shù)急遽膨脹，1964年人數(shù)首次超過15000人。1966年邁阿密大學在俄亥俄州的米德爾敦（Middletown）建設了第一座分校。1968年在漢密爾頓（Hamilton）建立了第二所分校，同時在歐洲國家盧森堡（Luxembourg）建立了一個海外分?！唇襁~阿密大學多利布瓦歐洲中心（Miami University Dolibois European），該校學生在盧森堡商科，教授來自邁阿密大學。1974年西部女子學院（Western College for Women）被出售給邁阿密大學，時任校長施萊佛（Shriver）將其改造稱著名的交叉學科項目——Western College Program，2007年該項目并入邁阿密大學藝術(shù)與科學學院。2009年，邁阿密大學建立了最新的分校區(qū)——邁阿密大學美國之音學習中心（Miami University Voice of America Learning Center）。*(2)

邁阿密大學位于俄亥俄州牛津市，占地2000英畝（約8.0平方公里），絕大多數(shù)建筑均以佐治亞復興（Georgian Revival）式為主——該類建筑一般只有2-3層，帶有一個塔尖，正中設一個大門直通街道。牛津市位于俄亥俄州西南部的邁阿密谷，是一個人口不到3萬人的大學城，70%的人口都是在校大學生。。邁阿密大學最古老的建筑是始建于1818年的多功能建筑——富蘭克林大樓（Franklin Hall）；最古老學生宿舍是1825年落成的埃洛特大樓（Elliott Hall）。*(3)

邁阿密大學（俄亥俄）建筑學碩士（Master of Architecture，縮寫：M.Arch）項目經(jīng)美國國家建筑認證委員會（NAAB）認證。該項目根據(jù)申請者本科專業(yè)背景不同分為以下三種形式：
M. Arch I：申請者已擁有北美大學建筑學學士（B.Arch）學位；
M. Arch II：申請者已擁有建筑學學士（BA或BS）學位。
M. Arch III：申請者無本科建筑學專業(yè)背景。*(1)
上述項目要求遞交寫作樣本，可以是學術(shù)性或創(chuàng)意性的個人作品。*(2)
建筑學M.Arch項目向其學生提供以下兩種獎學金：一是部分學費和其他費用減免獎學金，二是“Graduate Assitantship”獎學金。上述獎學金，無需單獨申請，遞交申請材料后自動考慮獎學金授予。建筑學系每年有20名學生獲得Assitantship獎學金，有1名學生無需繳納大部分就讀費用。*(3)
